Plot summary
Michael Connor, a former special operations soldier, is living temporarily in Barcelona when Russia invades Ukraine in February 2022. He learns that Riley, his adopted niece, has been seized by the Skorzeny Group of mercenaries. Riley was in the country with an aid worker program. Connor turns to Charlie, a contact who helps him get her location from her smartwatch, and takes a place on a transport flight into Kyiv with a British private mercenary team led by Bunny, a former SAS man. That team has its own task, freeing a wealthy Ukrainian prisoner, and the two groups agree to share what they learn. In Kyiv, Connor meets Dany, a local guide, and Dany's family.
