Plot summary
Chintakindi Mallesham is a sixth-standard school drop-out in a Telangana village. His mother Lakshmi runs the household and winds thread over a four-foot V-shaped asu without pause, the pre-loom step her husband Narasimhulu needs before he can work weft and warp into ikat fabric on his loom. The work is thankless and it hurts her. Other women in the village do the same asu work. Mallesham sets out to design a machine for the winding, one that processes yarn for sarees mechanically, so the thread no longer has to be wound by hand and the women are spared that labor.
