Plot summary
After announcing the Telugu Desam Party, N. T. Rama Rao designs its flag and agenda and plans a tour of undivided Andhra Pradesh. His son Nandamuri Harikrishna rebuilds an old Chevrolet van into a campaign vehicle, the Chaitanya Ratham, and drives him across the state with his son-in-law Daggubati Venkateswara Rao. The tour wins public admiration and alarms Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who advances the elections and installs Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy as Chief Minister. Nadendla Bhaskar Rao drafts a list of compromised former politicians as candidates; Rama Rao rejects it and fields young newcomers instead. Nara Chandrababu Naidu contests on a Congress ticket against Rama Rao's party and loses. Rama Rao, impressed by his organizational talent, invites him to join the Telugu Desam Party.
