Plot summary
From 1999 to 2004, Andhra Pradesh moves toward its assembly elections, and Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, a Congress leader, senses the odds against his party. He decides on a padayatra, a journey on foot across the state, as the core of his campaign. The route covers 1475 kilometers over 68 days, starting at Chevella in Ranga Reddy district and finishing at Ichchapuram in Srikakulam district. Along the way he meets people from many sections of society, listens to them, learns of their hardships and writes down what he observes. Figures around him include Sabitha Indra Reddy, the first woman Home Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and K. V. P. Ramachandra Rao.
