Lev Yashin. The Dream Goalkeeper (2019) on Netflix

Plot summary

In Moscow in May 1971, a farewell match is being arranged for Lev Yashin, the first Soviet footballer to be honored by the stars of world football. While he waits, he recalls how his career began. A working class boy, he spent his days and nights on the ball and wanted to score goals, yet every side he turned out for, in a yard, a factory or the army, put him in goal. Tall and long-armed, he could reach the hardest balls, and his longing to play outfield shaped a goalkeeping style of his own. Early mistakes came: a goal conceded from a kick down the whole pitch while he kept for the Dynamo reserves, and one from Spartak on his debut for the senior side, after which he was sent to the reserves to sharpen his skills.
