Plot summary
A feud between two mountain families starts over stolen eggs, and Grace Martin and Henry Coy, one from each side, meet. The anthology gathers ten segments. Two egrets cross a moonlit bayou; teenagers gather at a malt shop to dance; a ballad follows a lost love past a withered tree and a starry sky. In 1902, the town of Mudville sends Casey to the plate with the game on the line, and ballet dancers move in silhouette with two putti. A boy named Peter goes into the snow with a toy gun and his animal friends to hunt a wolf. Instruments parade, two hats fall in love in a store window, and a singing sperm whale named Willie dreams of an opera stage.

- With much of Walt Disney's staff drafted during World War II and the rest making U.S. government training and propaganda films, the studio was left with unfinished story ideas; to keep its feature film division alive it released six package films, including Make Mine Music.
- The film's "Blue Bayou" segment uses animation originally made for Fantasia, set to Claude Debussy's Clair de Lune conducted by Leopold Stokowski; by the time Make Mine Music came out, Clair de Lune had been replaced by the new song Blue Bayou, sung by the Ken Darby Singers.
- The segment "The Martins and the Coys" was later censored from the film's US video release because of objections to its depiction of gun violence.
- Make Mine Music used 2,500,000 original drawings and cost $350,000 to make, though Variety later reported a higher production cost of $1.35 million.
- For the "Two Silhouettes" segment, live-action ballet dancers David Lichine and Tania Riabouchinskaya were rotoscoped so they moved in silhouette against animated backgrounds and characters.
- The "All the Cats Join In" segment contains mild female nudity that was edited out of both the US and UK DVD releases, though it survives intact and uncensored in the film's Japanese home video releases.
- When Disney gave Make Mine Music its first Blu-ray release in 2021 through the Disney Movie Club, customer service said it would be uncut and include all ten musical segments, but the discs actually held the censored 2000 version.
