Plot summary
Bob Brooks does not come home one night, and a newspaper report places him in night court with a woman listed as Mrs. Brooks and his friend Jimmy Wade. His wife Angela learns the woman is Trixie, a showgirl Bob has been seeing; Bob claims she is Jimmy's wife. Angela is amused, but Bob has tired of her staid manner, and both say they are leaving. Angela repents, and her maid urges her to fight for him. She tells Jimmy she has left home and will stay at his flat, and when she arrives he and Trixie pretend to be married. Trixie tells Angela she understands what a man wants, and Angela takes it as a challenge. Jimmy plans a masquerade ball aboard a moored airship, and Angela resolves to attend as a devil woman called Madam Satan.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Madam Satan (1930)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- DeMille wanted Gloria Swanson for the role of Angela, but her lover and business partner Joseph P. Kennedy persuaded her to turn it down while she was still salvaging her disastrous Queen Kelly; Thomas Meighan was sought for Bob Brooks before Reginald Denny was cast.
- Angela's "Madam Satan" costume was made less revealing and an entire scene in which she confronts Trixie, who wears a sheer nightgown because she "has nothing to hide", was deleted, yet the notoriously finicky Ohio censor board passed the film without cuts.
- DeMille first wanted writer Dorothy Parker to augment Jeanie MacPherson's script, but Parker was living in France, so he hired vaudeville writer Elsie Janis, who left the project on March 24, 1930, reportedly because she did not like the direction the script was going.
- Madam Satan was the most expensive film Metro made in 1930 and would remain the studio's costliest musical until The Merry Widow in 1934.
