Plot summary
In Perambalur in 2011, Anbu is refused a place in the Jolly Friends cricket team because of caste, until the captain, Karuppaiya, steps in and lets him play against Sachin Boys, the side led by its star batsman, Poomalai, known as Gethu, a painter who once worked in Dubai. Anbu never gets to bowl and leaves the ground. A decade later he runs a sportswear shop in Tittakudi and turns out as a guest player for local teams, since Venkatesh, Karuppaiya's brother, still keeps him out of Jolly Friends. At a marriage function he meets Durga, a trainee nurse, and falls in love with her, not knowing she is Gethu's daughter. His criticism of Gethu's old-fashioned batting reaches Gethu, who calls him an amateur.
