Blanche Friderici
Biography
Blanche Friderici was an American stage and film actress, at times billed as Blanche Frederici. A native of Brooklyn, New York, she first intended to teach acting and elocution rather than to perform, but she took up acting instead. An introduction arranged by a fan of her recitals led to work with the impresario David Belasco, who put her in The Darling of the Gods. Between 1914 and 1927 she acted in nine Broadway productions in New York City, among them 39 East (1919) and Rain, as Mrs. Davidson. Her screen debut came as Miss McMasters in the 1920 film version of 39 East, and she made sixty films between 1920 and 1934. She played a housekeeper in Night Nurse (1931), and in Flying Down to Rio (1933) she was a chaperone, while It Happened One Night (1934) cast her as the wife of a motel owner, her final role.
