Plot summary
Two cartons of Marilyn Monroe's private papers came to light in the home of her acting coach, Lee Strasberg, fifty years after she died. The book Fragments gathers those diary entries, poems and letters, and actors, critics, journalists and authors read them aloud, each voice taking a different stretch of her life. More material comes from the estates of Arthur Miller and Truman Capote. Archival interviews with Hollywood figures who worked with her on films and at acting school sit alongside present-day comment from biographers and reviewers. Her notes range from quick jottings to long letters, and they trace her ambition as a performer and the pressures of her Hollywood years.
