Little Odessa (1994) on Netflix

Plot summary

Joshua Shapira kills for the Russian mafia in Brooklyn and has stayed away from the Soviet Jewish immigrant family he left behind. His father Arkady disapproves of that life, and Joshua's mother Irina and teenage brother Reuben endure his abuse. Irina is dying of cancer. After finishing one contract, Joshua is asked to kill an Iranian jeweler in the neighborhood, and he takes the job reluctantly. He rents a hotel room, and an old friend, Sasha, sees him outside the family's apartment and tells Reuben. Reuben visits him at the hotel, and the two arrange to meet again. Joshua also spends time with his ex-girlfriend Alla Shustervich, and Reuben takes him home, where Arkady calls him a murderer and throws him out.
