Plot summary
Heather Lofton is nine, and her family is wealthy, but her stepmother, Sybil Lofton, cannot stand her. Heather leaves home to search for her real mother. The woman in whose care the girl has been placed hires a detective, Nick Frost, to find her and bring her back. Instead, the woman accuses him of kidnapping the girl, and he becomes a wanted man.
