Plot summary
Jack Delroy hosts Night Owls, a late-night variety show in New York City that competes with The Tonight Show. After his wife Madeleine dies of cancer, production halts; Jack returns and the ratings stay low. For Halloween he mounts a live occult-themed episode. His guests are Christou, a medium; Carmichael Haig, a magician turned skeptic who offers a large check to anyone who can demonstrate the supernatural; and parapsychologist June Ross-Mitchell, who brings Lilly, a 13-year-old, the only survivor of a police raid on a Satanic church whose members died in a mass suicide. Jack asks Lilly to make contact with the spirit she calls Mr. Wriggles.

- Ian Bliss, who plays the skeptic Carmichael Haig, had been hired for a different character altogether. Days before the shoot began he was told to read for Haig because the actor cast in that part had withdrawn.
- In the week before release, reviewers attacked the film for AI-generated images that had not been in the cut screened at South by Southwest. The Cairnes brothers answered that they had experimented with AI on three still images, edited further, which appear as brief interstitials.
- Opening in 1,034 North American theaters on 22 March 2024, the film took $2.8 million, the best debut any IFC Films release had managed. Fittingly for a devil picture, an estimated $666,666 of that came on the third day.
