Plot summary
Tanya is a Russian woman who flies to London with her ten-year-old son Artyom, expecting her fiancé Mark to be at the airport. He does not come, and rather than be sent home she claims political asylum. The claim confines the two of them to Stonehaven, a former seaside resort that now houses undocumented immigrants, patrolled by officers and with a review she is told could take a year. Their flat overlooks an abandoned amusement park. Les, who makes Internet pornography, offers Tanya money to perform in webcam videos. Alfie, who runs the local amusement arcade and boxed professionally before, helps her with the payphone and brings supplies for her and Artyom.
