Plot summary
Norbert wants a bigger monthly allowance than his father will give him, and an appeal to his mother changes nothing. A friend hands him a forged 500-franc note when Norbert tries to raise money on his watch. He and another boy use the note at a photo shop to buy a picture frame. When the shop's co-manager discovers the note is fake, he scolds his partner for accepting it, and she reminds him that he took two forged notes the week before. He decides to pass the three bills on at the first chance and uses them to pay Yvon Targe, who delivers heating oil. Yvon tries to settle his restaurant tab with the notes, and the waiter sees they are counterfeit.
