Plot summary
Bob, an ex-convict with money to spend, meets Monique and Antoine in a dance hall while the married pair is in the middle of a row. He breaks up the quarrel and draws the penniless couple into his life, paying for their pleasures and taking them along on break-ins at prosperous houses. In one of them, while he and Antoine search the place for money, Monique, delighted by luxury she has not known, has a bath and takes clothes and scent for herself. The three get away even when the owners are at home or come back while they are there.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Bertrand Blier wanted to reunite the trio of his Les Valseuses — Gérard Depardieu, Patrick Dewaere and Miou-Miou — in Evening Dress, but Patrick Dewaere's suicide in 1982 put an end to that plan.
- Blier first intended to star Gérard Depardieu opposite his Les Valseuses co-star Patrick Dewaere in Evening Dress; the second male lead was later meant for Bernard Giraudeau before Michel Blanc took the part.
