Rodney Dangerfield
Biography
Rodney Dangerfield was an American stand-up comic and actor who also worked as a screenwriter and producer, building his act on self-deprecating one-liners and jokes about getting no respect. Born on Long Island in Babylon, New York, he first performed stand-up at a New York City club called the Fantasy Lounge. During the 1960s and 1970s he became a familiar face on late-night talk shows and later headlined the Las Vegas casino circuit. His breakout movie part came as a boorish newly rich golfer in the sports comedy Caddyshack (1980). He went on to star in Easy Money (1983) and Back to School (1986), as well as Ladybugs (1992), Rover Dangerfield (1991), and Meet Wally Sparks (1997). His rare dramatic turn came in Natural Born Killers (1994), as an abusive father. His comedy album No Respect earned him a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album, and in 2002 his name was added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In March 1995, Dangerfield became the first celebrity to own a website himself and make content for it. Fans who used the site's "E-mail me" link often got a reply, which surprised them.
About the name
Dangerfield got his stage name when he asked Inwood Lounge owner George McFadden to disguise him from patrons who might remember him from the 1940s. McFadden came up with Rodney Dangerfield.
Big break
Dangerfield gave one of his more memorable performances in the 1980 golf comedy Caddyshack, playing a nouveau riche property developer staying at a country club. His part was initially smaller, but he and cast members Chevy Chase and Bill Murray were good at improvisation, so their roles grew during filming.
First role
At 15, Dangerfield started writing material for stand-up comedians. He was also performing at the Nevele, a former resort located in Ellenville, New York.
