Trailer

Plot summary

Gordie Boggs and Sean Dawkins work on a septic truck in Lusk, Wyoming, and they worship the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Jimmy King. At a Monday Nitro event, Titus Sinclair and Diamond Dallas Page take King's title from him in a dishonest match, and Sinclair fires him. Driving home, the two survive a crash in their truck, and Gordie takes it as a sign that they must make King champion again. They travel to Atlanta looking for him and meet his parents, who say that King took off with their mobile home and never brought it back. They track him to a mobile park, where he has quit the sport; their goading makes him attack them, and the fight stirs his old appetite for the ring.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Ready to Rumble (2000)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • After the film came out, WCW ran a publicity storyline in which David Arquette, a legitimate wrestling fan, became WCW World Heavyweight Champion; wrestling fans reviled it, and Arquette reportedly thought it a bad idea that would damage the value of a title he held in high regard.
  • Arquette later donated all the money WCW paid him to the families of the deceased wrestlers Owen Hart, Brian Pillman and Brian Hildebrand, and to wrestler Darren Drozdov, who was left paralysed by an in-ring accident a year earlier.
  • WCW used the Triple Cage only twice; at Slamboree 2000 Jeff Jarrett beat Diamond Dallas Page and David Arquette to win the title, and in that match Chris Kanyon was thrown from the roof of one of the cages, "paralyzing" him.
  • The film received negative reviews and was a box office bomb, grossing $12.5 million against a $24 million budget, but it has since become a cult classic among wrestling fans.
  • A remix of a Kid Rock song appears on the iTunes version of this soundtrack, and it remained one of the only Kid Rock songs available on iTunes until most of his catalog was released there in 2013.
