Plot summary
Mae Martin and her daughter Peggy both work as chorus girls in burlesque. When Bubbles LaRue, the featured dancer, walks out, Joe, the stage manager, wants Mae for a special number, and Mae quietly gives the chance to Peggy. Peggy performs so well that the top spot in the show is offered to her. Friends bring Randy Carroll, whose family is wealthy Cleveland society, to a performance, and he falls for Peggy. Peggy seldom accepts dates, since her mother disapproves, so Randy sends her an unsigned orchid every night. Peggy grows curious about her secret admirer and asks the florist who sends them. Randy proposes marriage, and Mae warns him that the gulf between his world and Peggy's could bring her misery.
