Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Kubi's production was suspended in August 2022 while the editing was nearly 90% complete, after a contract dispute between Takeshi Kitano and Kadokawa; Kadokawa had sought additional funding from Netflix and Kitano demanded a portion of it for himself.
- Takeshi Kitano conceived Kubi around the time of his early film Sonatine (1993), and it took him 30 years to get it made; he said it finally came together once he could gather talented actors in the Kitano-group.
