Plot summary
Robel Haile is fifteen and Eritrean-American, and he lives in Seattle. A relative in Eritrea, his parents' homeland, has suddenly fallen ill, so a suitcase of medicine and cash must reach a friend who is flying there. Robel takes on the delivery, and his best friend Fahmi Tadesse, an Ethiopian-American boy of the same age, joins him. What should be a short errand turns into a long crossing of a city whose neighborhoods are being rebuilt, and the community the two boys know is being pushed out.
