Genevieve Tobin
Biography
Genevieve Tobin was an American actress who began on the stage as a child in 1912, in Disraeli, and later worked in Broadway comedies and Hollywood films. Born in New York City and educated in Paris, she did some child film work and teamed with her sister Vivian in a double act before focusing on the New York stage. She played Cordelia in a 1923 Broadway production of King Lear and scored a major success in the 1929 play Fifty Million Frenchmen, in which she introduced You Do Something to Me, a song by Cole Porter. That success brought her back to Hollywood, where she played supporting roles opposite stars Cary Grant, Barbara Stanwyck and Claudette Colbert, with occasional leads in Golden Harvest (1933) and Easy to Love (1934). She was Della Street in The Case of the Lucky Legs (1935) and appeared in the drama The Petrified Forest (1936). Her last film was No Time for Comedy (1940).
