Plot summary
Vince Miller and Fay Forrester pull $850,000 out of a mob courier at a Winnemucca casino, and one man dies in the robbery. On the road afterward the two argue, and at a rest stop Fay knocks Vince out and takes off with the cash. She turns up in Reno and looks for Jack Andrews, a widowed private investigator whose gambling has buried him in debt. Posing as an abused wife, Fay offers him ten thousand dollars if he will make it look as though she died. Jack is skeptical, but he needs the money. He agrees and hands her a new name to use.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Kill Me Again (1989)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Dahl and the producers were interested in casting Joanne Whalley for the female lead, unaware that she was married to Kilmer; when they mentioned her name to him he said, 'Oh that's interesting because I'm actually married to her.'
- John Dahl was working as a storyboarder on features like Robocop and Something Wild while writing spec scripts with his writing partner David W. Warfield; when Warfield asked how to get someone to utter the phrase 'Kill me again', the pair decided their next project would be a neo-noir, inspired by pulp fiction titles such as D.O.A.
- Dahl and Warfield made a pact to accept offers of $300,000 or above for the script, otherwise they would make it themselves; having failed to get offers above $250,000 they went ahead, reaching a deal with PolyGram, and MGM agreed to co-finance if they could get Val Kilmer to star.
