Lita Chevret
Biography
Lita Chevret was an American actress who entered movies around the time sound arrived and worked mainly in minor parts. She was born in Oakland, California, into a show business family, and her parents made sure she studied singing and dance. At 16 she started acting with a stock theater troupe, and she also took part in Berkeley productions by Irving Pichel and in revues by Fanchon and Marco. Dancing led to her first screen job, an uncredited turn in Fox Movietone Follies of 1929. She then had a small unbilled role in Words and Music and appeared in RKO Radio Pictures' Rio Rita, the studio's biggest success that year. RKO signed her to a three-year contract in 1930 and extended it by three more, but her parts stayed small. She chose freelance work after 1936, kept taking bit roles for another five years, and retired in 1941. Her last film was The Philadelphia Story (1940).
