Plot summary
In Manhattan, Halley shares an apartment with Dag, a successful director of television commercials. He claims to have given up his philandering but is given to flings with other women, and Halley tries to overlook them. She learns that Dag spent a night with Rebecca, a ballet dancer involved with his close friend Peter, and a message on the answering machine from a woman named Paula adds to her feeling of betrayal. Halley breaks up with Dag, and Peter, suddenly without a girlfriend, is left wounded as well. Halley makes the acquaintance of Andre, a well-mannered classical musician, while Peter meets Colleen, who is married to Andre.
