Plot summary
Jolene, fifteen and an orphan, breaks free from foster care by marrying Mickey, a twenty-year-old, and they live in South Carolina with his Uncle Phil and Aunt Kay. The night before her sixteenth birthday, she asks Mickey about his mother, and he rebuffs her and starts crying. She seduces him to make him feel better, but his inexperience makes the sex uncomfortable and joyless. The next day is her birthday, and Kay asks her to clean the floor. Phil walks in, is aroused watching her dance while she works, and they have sex. A passionate affair follows, and Phil promises her a house of their own, but asks her to keep the affair quiet since both of them are married.
