Plot summary
In 1901 a man confronts a jinn in a forest shack and demands the release of a girl. The jinn attacks him, and after the man douses it with holy water, it threatens his bloodline, generation after generation. More than a century later, Shawn and Jasmine live in Michigan. Shawn receives an early birthday gift, a note and a VHS tape recorded by his father, who warns that strange things may begin and that helpers will prepare him to fight unknown forces. Shawn wants a child. Jasmine says she cannot have one. Odd things begin at home, and Father Westhoff and Gabriel explain the jinn to the couple. Shawn's adoptive parents confirm the account.
