Plot summary
Jesse Stone, police chief of Paradise, Massachusetts, has been bored by the lack of serious crime in the town and lonely since his dog died. He becomes an unpaid consultant to the state police homicide unit led by Lt. Sydney Greenstreet and reads through files on several murders. One case holds him: four victims killed the same distinctive way, details never released to the public. Richard Steele, jailed as the Boston Ripper, admits to three of the killings and denies the fourth.
