Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Jackie Brown (1997)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Jackie Brown drew criticism for its use of the racial slur "nigger", spoken 38 times, the most in any Tarantino film until Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight; Spike Lee objected and took his concerns to producers Harvey Weinstein and Lawrence Bender, while Tarantino defended the word's use.
- While adapting Elmore Leonard's Rum Punch, Tarantino changed the main character's ethnicity from White to Black and renamed her from Burke to Brown, and he put off telling Leonard about it until the film was about to start shooting.
- Michael Keaton was hesitant to take the part of Ray Nicolette, though Tarantino wanted him; Keaton agreed and played Nicolette again, uncredited, in Out of Sight, and Tarantino insisted Miramax not charge Universal for lending the character.
- Pam Grier did not expect Tarantino to call after Pulp Fiction; arriving to read for Jackie Brown, she found posters of her own films in his office, and he admitted he had planned to take them down before her audition so it would not look like he was trying to impress her.
- Sylvester Stallone claimed years after release that he turned down the role of Louis Gara, while Tarantino weighed Paul Newman, Gene Hackman and John Saxon for Max Cherry before casting Robert Forster.
- The soundtrack includes Bobby Womack's "Across 110th Street" and Pam Grier's "Long Time Woman" from her 1971 film The Big Doll House, plus separate dialogue tracks; rather than a new score, Tarantino reused Roy Ayers's funk score from Coffy.
