Plot summary
Clyde and his wife Lucy invite Jack, a limousine driver who works for the uncle he lives with, to dinner at their home to meet Connie, Lucy's new colleague. Clyde is Jack's closest friend and co-worker. Connie is as uneasy around people as Jack is. Jack decides that he wants to take her out on the water, and since he cannot swim, Clyde takes him to a pool for lessons. Summer feels too far off to wait for a date, so Jack proposes a meal instead; when Connie mentions that nobody has ever cooked for her, he arranges cooking lessons with a chef who knows Lucy.
