Daphne Rubin-Vega

Daphne Rubin-Vega is a Panamanian actress and singer who grew up in the United States after her family moved from Panama City. She studied theater at the New LAByrinth Theater Company and the William Esper Studio, and in the late 1980s she sang with the group Pajama Party. Her breakthrough came as Mimi Marquez in the original Broadway production of Rent, a role she played from 1996 into 1997 and which earned her a Tony nomination and a Theatre World Award. She received a second Tony nomination for Anna in the Tropics. Her screen work includes Wild Things (1998), Flawless (1999), Jack Goes Boating (2010) and In the Heights (2021), in which she played the salon owner Daniela and drew praise from critics. She also voiced Carmilla Carmine in Hazbin Hotel and released the album Redemption Songs.
