Victor Moore

Biography

Victor Moore was an American stage and screen actor who became a leading Broadway star in the late 1920s and 1930s. He was best known as a comedian playing timid, mild-mannered parts. Born in Hammonton in 1876, he first appeared on Broadway in Rosemary in 1896. He later starred in shows such as Oh, Kay!, Of Thee I Sing, Anything Goes, and Louisiana Purchase, often opposite William Gaxton. His film debut came in 1915, and he went on to appear in Swing Time (1936), Make Way for Tomorrow (1937), Ziegfeld Follies (1945), It Happened on Fifth Avenue (1947), We're Not Married! (1952), and The Seven Year Itch (1955), his last screen role, as a plumber. He also wrote and directed, and appeared on radio and television. In 1945 he also appeared in Ain't That Ducky, a Daffy Duck cartoon.

Victor Moore showed up in the 1945 Daffy Duck cartoon Ain't That Ducky. Happy with how he was drawn, he said he would voice the part for nothing if the animators gave him a bit more hair.

Beatrice deMille, a screenwriter, was the first to notice Moore's talent. His film debut came in 1915, when he starred in three films, two of them directed by Cecil B. DeMille.
