Plot summary
The Quiet Rapture makes every star and inhabited planet vanish, and the people on them go with it. Only the few humans who were aboard space stations and spaceships at the time are left. Simon is convicted for his part in destroying Filament Station and imprisoned. A newly found moon holds an ocean of blood, and Simon is taken there and ordered to steer the SM-13 through it. The craft has one sealed porthole, and it has picked up the nickname Iron Lung. Simon cannot look out, so he takes still pictures with a crude camera to see anything, and a radio gives him a little contact with the crew on the surface. His freedom is what he is offered for finishing the dive.

- Markiplier had to go to the hospital while filming Iron Lung after getting too much fake blood in his eyes. The film's fake blood outdid 2013's Evil Dead, which used 50,000 US gallons.
- In a livestream on December 7, 2025, Markiplier said the finished film ended up using over 80,000 US gallons of fake blood.
- Markiplier turned down a role in Five Nights at Freddy's (2023) in order to produce Iron Lung, because the two films had conflicting production schedules.
- Iron Lung was initially slated for only 60 independent US theaters, but after Markiplier urged fans to request it locally, a grassroots campaign got it into Cinemark, AMC and Regal, and it opened in 4,161 theaters worldwide.
