Plot summary
A young mother lives in a modest flat in North London with her husband Lenny, a bomb-disposal officer, and their four-year-old son. The Arsenal football team is the family's religion. On May Day, while she is with Jasper Black, a reporter who lives over the road, suicide bombers attack a football match. Lenny, the boy and about a thousand others are killed. Two men try to comfort her: Jasper and Terrence Butcher, her husband's superior in the anti-terrorist division, and both are romantically interested in her.
