Plot summary
Becky is pregnant and riding toward San Diego with her brother Cal when a boy's cries for help come out of a field of tall grass beside an abandoned church. The boy is Tobin, and his mother Natalie is somewhere in the grass with him. Becky and Cal go in. The stalks separate them, the distance between them shifts unnaturally, and the road they came from cannot be found. Cal finds Tobin holding a dead crow; Tobin says the grass does not move dead things. Becky comes across Ross, Tobin's father, who urges her to stay near him and not let him out of her sight. Travis, the father of Becky's baby, drives out looking for the siblings.
