Plot summary
Fishermen have died in Bremervoord and an Allamorax is blamed, so Geralt of Rivia is hired to kill it. The merman Deroua begs mercy for the creature, saying it is not responsible, and Geralt lets it go. With the prize money forfeited, Jaskier accepts an invitation to play at the local festival, where they meet his childhood friend, the bard Essi Daven. King Usveldt attends with his son prince Agloval. During the festival a pearl-hunting boat is attacked, and a survivor says the Vodnik struck on the sirens' orders. The king had refused to move against the merpeople because Agloval loves the siren princess Sh'eenaz. He now orders Geralt to hunt those responsible. In the sea, King Basim and Queen Dahut face calls for action, and Sh'eenaz says a marriage to Agloval could bring peace.
