Plot summary

The sorcerer Nhagruul the Foul caused despair during his mortal life, and near its end he pledged his soul to demons of the Abyss. His skin, bones and blood were remade as the Book of Vile Darkness: pages, cover and ink. Whoever gazed at its pages turned evil. Karkoth fell under that evil until the Knights of the New Sun, carrying amulets given by the god Pelor, brought light against the dark. The Knights destroyed the ink, and Nhagruul's followers hid the pages and the cover. Two thousand years on, Grayson joins the order, but Pelor grants him nothing through the amulet. Barbarians kill the Knights and carry off his father. To find him, Grayson joins a band hunting a horn that leads to the Book's cover, among them Akordia, Seith, Vimak and Bezz.
