Plot summary
Earth is a wasteland now called the Lost Lands, where the Overlord rules and the Church keeps order by force. The witch Gray Alys escapes a hanging staged by the Enforcer and takes shelter with a blind old woman. The Queen, the Overlord's wife, comes to her and invokes an old agreement that Alys never refuses: she wants a werewolf's power before the next full moon, so Alys must kill the beast and bring the power back to her. Alys enters a shapeshifter's mind to find it, and enlists the help of Boyce, a hunter she finds in a pub. The Patriarch orders the Enforcer to capture Alys, force a confession from her and put her to death.

- In 2015, producer Constantin Werner bought the rights to three George R. R. Martin stories, "The Lonely Songs of Laren Dorr", "In the Lost Lands" and "Bitterblooms", planning to adapt them into a single film with Milla Jovovich as Gray Alys and Justin Chatwin as Boyce; that version never happened and the project entered limbo.
