Plot summary
Jay Brooks is a black man who loves indie rock and graphic novels, and he has mostly dated white women. After a series of breakups, he decides to stop dating white women and sets out on Operation Brown Sugar, an effort to date black women. The plan goes poorly because Jay does not match the stereotype of a black man, and women he approaches are not interested. Then he meets Catherine, a biracial Canadian woman who is as unconventional as he is. To win her over, Jay must face his fears, and commitment is a bigger issue for him than race.
