Plot summary

Vince Denham was Vinnie D, one of five in the boy band Stereo Dream. Twenty years on he is out of work in Peckham, London, and the solo album he hopes will restore his fame will not come together. Practicing his keyboard in a market, he is joined by Stevie, a drummer of eighteen, and the two hold the crowd until Stevie's mother Amber hurries him off. A video of the jam spreads online, and Vince persuades a pub manager to give the pair a slot at a music night. He finds Stevie again at a church drumming circle, but Amber turns down the invitation at once. Stevie is autistic, she explains, and crowds and unexpected situations overwhelm him; she has no faith that Vince could manage his meltdowns.
