Plot summary

At his high school, Jason Jackson has his eye on The Ranger$, the most popular dance crew there. The crew's initiation requires underwear from one of the Sweet Gyrls before midnight, so Jason sets his sights on his longtime crush Anastacia at the school's dance lock-in. His older cousin Day Day, a member of the Ranger$, owes Anastacia's eldest brother Junior $2,000 by that same midnight, a debt that dates to a dominoes game Day Day lost to Junior after Day Day's father Darren told Junior the money would come. In English class, Anastacia forgets the homework and Jason passes her a poem he wrote about her; the teacher has her read it aloud, and she hands Jason her number and suggests they write a song together.
