Plot summary
Jon Burroughs writes songs in his hometown, hoping to make it as a musician. One day he sees a man called Lucas attempt to drown himself in the sea. While Lucas is taken away for care, Jon gets talking to Don, who manages a band named The Soronprfbs and tells him Lucas used to play keyboards in it. Jon says he plays keyboards as well, and that night he is asked to sit in with the group. Nana, Clara and Baraque are slow to accept a newcomer, while Frank, the singer, welcomes him warmly, wearing a papier-mâché mask. Mid-set, Clara storms off the stage, shocked by a faulty wire. Frank invites Jon to join a Soronprfbs project at a remote cabin in Ireland, where Jon expects a few days and finds the band planning to stay a year.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Frank (2014)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The film's story draws on Frank Sidebottom, the comic persona of Chris Sievey, who is thought to have backed the project before his death, as well as on musicians Daniel Johnston, Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa. Co-writer Jon Ronson had played in Sidebottom's band, and the plot began as an adaptation of his writings before turning fictional.
- Music director Stephen Rennicks wrote songs that mixed pop with experimental rock for the film, and the music the band performs on screen was recorded live by the cast while they were filming.
