Plot summary
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, known as America's Poet, writes from a home he shares with his wife Fanny and the couple's children, among them Charley, Ernest and Alice Mary. Grief arrives with a tragedy in that household, and it stops his writing. Beyond the walls, the nation is coming apart over the Civil War, and the country's divisions reach into the family as well.
