Plot summary
The spaceship Prometheus is carrying an alien prisoner when it drops out of orbit and comes down on a barren, deserted planet. Communications and life support are down, and the status of the crew and of the prisoner is unknown. An elite team of interstellar commandos survives the landing, among them Commander Karza and Lieutenant Centauri 7. Their orders are to catch the alien alive, and the crash has left it free somewhere on the surface. The commandos move out across the open desert to bring it back, and the search becomes a game of cat and mouse between the crew and the escaped creature.
