Plot summary
In a near future after an environmental collapse, governments have mandated euthanasia to control the population. Charles York, a former news broadcaster, gathers his four adult children and his second wife, Dawn Kim, for dinner at his home. The children are Jared, a controversial anthropologist; Rachel, a pharmaceutical CEO; Ashley, a struggling actress; and Noah, a recovering addict. Rachel brings her young daughter, Mia. Charles announces that he and Dawn have volunteered for the Department of Citizen Strategy's euthanasia program. An argument breaks out. Dawn slips away and flees after changing her mind. Armed agents arrive with Bob, who represents the Department of Citizen Strategy, and the family learns Charles has scheduled his euthanasia for that evening.
