Plot summary
Bill Martin owns Morgan's Island, an empty rock off the Florida coast that nobody wants. After he and his friend Stuff Oliver pull a peg-legged sailor, Tobias Clump, out of the water, the man gives Bill a map to Sir Henry Morgan's fortune. Clump says a phantom pushed him in and made off with half the map. Bill's cousin George offers twenty thousand dollars for the island; Bill refuses, and a cartographer, Jasper, dismisses the map as a forgery. Bill's answer is a treasure hunt cruise at fifty dollars a head, with a fake treasure planted for the guests. He talks Wendy Creighton into joining. On the crossing the ship goes astray, and on the island the phantom tells Wendy to leave.
