Plot summary
The town blames Ignatius Perrish for the rape and murder of his girlfriend, Merrin Williams, though he says he had no part in it. He stays with his parents and his brother Terry to escape the press, while Merrin's father leads a vigil, convinced of Ig's guilt. After a night of heavy drinking, Ig wakes to find horns growing from his head. Their power compels everyone near him to tell the secrets and desires they keep hidden and to act on them at his word. Under anesthesia at a doctor's appointment about having the horns removed, he dreams of his childhood and of meeting Merrin at church, the start of a love they shared in a treehouse in the woods.

- While Horns was shooting in British Columbia, Daniel Radcliffe drank tap water from a trailer that contained antifreeze, which was in the water to stop it freezing; no sign warned it was undrinkable, and he was violently ill for three days.
- Shia LaBeouf was originally set to play the lead, Ig, in the Joe Hill adaptation, but he was replaced by Daniel Radcliffe.
