Plot summary
Hillary Burns has spent years trying to win her parents' approval, especially that of her mother, Meredith, who keeps pressing her to marry. This Thanksgiving she finally has news for the family: her fiancé, Jason King, a workaholic lawyer, will at last come to meet them. Then Jason ends the relationship, and Hillary, dreading her mother's reaction, needs a replacement. Her friend Sophie urges her to hire a stand-in for the visit. Hillary posts an ad online, and David, an unemployed actor, agrees to spend the holiday weekend at the family home pretending to be Jason, in front of her mother, her father and her sister Trisha.
