Priam Farrel stands as England's most renowned painter, but he dislikes fame and keeps out of sight, so the agent who sells his work has never met him. Lady Helen comes to believe he has proposed to her, and he hurries back to London, taking his valet, Henry Leek. Leek soon dies of pneumonia, and the doctor who attends him mistakes the servant for the painter, telling the newspapers that Priam Farrel is dead. Priam is glad of the error.
