Plot summary
Peter Perg comes back to Vienna in 1920, a former detective who spent years as a prisoner of war. The Austro-Hungarian Empire is gone, and the new Austrian Republic has brought social and artistic freedom alongside unemployment and anti-democratic movements. Perg finds his hometown changed and himself a stranger in it. When one of his old comrades is murdered and other veterans are killed, he decides to bring the killer to justice. The forensic doctor Theresa Körner becomes his ally; the two share a deeper history. Their inquiry takes them through the city's darkest corners and against intrigues inside the police force.
